2 Week Update

I won’t do updates that frequently, but things are very new so I wanted to do a quick little update on whats been going on the last two weeks!

IMG_4184Age: 2 weeks

Stats: 7lb 7.5oz (26th percentile), dome 35cm (26th percentile), 21.5″ (90th percentile)

Clothes: Little man is still in Newborn sizes – we don’t have very many things that fit him since I thought I was having a bigger baby! He spends most of his days Swaddled in his diaper.

Favorite Foods: Mama’s Milk and Formula

Words: He’s enjoy working out his lungs lately!

Activities: Brandon spends most of his days sleeping. He really dislikes baths and having his diaper changed.

Favorite Things: Eating. He loves to eat and he loves to be walked around and up and down the stairs. Brandon also loves car rides and anything that keeps him in motion.

Signature Moves: Ninja hands! No matter how well you swaddle him, they always seem to poke out!

Mom’s Proudest Moment: The best moment in the last two weeks has to be the little guys entry into the world. He doesn’t do a whole heck of a lot yet. I love when he looks at me and holds my finger so tight as he eats. Getting this Mom thing down to a science.

Dad’s Proudest Moment: It was truly amazing to witness my beautiful son’s entry into this world.  I am so happy that everything went so smoothly and how we are conquering the little bumps in the road that we have already encountered. In saying this, my proudest MOMents have been witnessing Danielle’s strength through this entire process.  She’s awesome

We had our two week Doctor appointment today and the little guy looks perfect and healthy! Not to mention cute! Because of his lack of interest in nursing, he lost more weight after birth than everyone wanted but boy has he made up for it in the last week by surpassing his birth weight by 4oz.

Today, Mommy and Mini went on a solo shopping trip to BabiesrUs while Daddy stayed home to relax. We made out pretty well. As soon as the “motion” stops, he wakes up and is an unhappy camper. I ended up carrying him around the store as he slept in my arms and we both sweat our body weight. Luckily, he’s cute and everyone commented on him – everything from asking if he’s a premie to asking if he’s mine because I “don’t look like I had a baby only two weeks ago”. Little man gets a lot of attention already – he was cruising around town in his Easter outfit from Mem today! 🙂 We also bought a new hat so he doesn’t have to wear the hospital one anymore, we found one to fit his little head.

Happy 2 week Birthday to our little man! We love you.

Welcome to the World

Born: Monday, March 16, 2015

Weight: 7lb 3oz

Length: 21″

Brandon came into the world rather quickly which was a joy and a panic! I woke up around 1am with small contractions which were pretty consistently 10 minutes apart until 8am. I let Kevin remain in a deep sleep as I knew I needed him to be my coach during the day – if this was the big day. He woke up for work and I told him I had been having contractions so I was staying home from work, he said he would too. My contractions tapered off around breakfast so we decided to go for a little walk around the block to see if it would get things going again. Contractions started again around 930/10am but they were 15-20 minutes apart and not very consistent. I thought that taking the day off of work was a waste and the baby was not coming. Around 11am they began getting a little stronger and consistently 15 minutes apart so Kevin prepped my labor staging area where I would be camping out for the next 5 hours.

004 012Originally, we were supposed to call the doctor when my water broke or the contractions were 5 minutes apart for about an hour. Contractions were 15 minutes apart for quite some time – but in the meantime we ate some lunch, walked around, I kept having to use the bathroom and I wasn’t doing so bad. Those 15 minute ones QUICKLY became 7 minute contractions and they started to get hot and heavy. I had these for a while and soon there where smaller “tremor” contractions in between the big ones. We called the doctor, I was able to talk to the doctor and she said to call back when they were 3 minutes apart for one hour – this would be considered “active labor” and still plenty of time since this was my first baby. Within the hour, those little tremor contractions became real ones and they were constant at 3 minutes and they were getting stronger by the second. We called the doctor again and she (reluctantly) agreed we could come to the hospital. I was almost not able to talk to her as they were so painful. Now I understand what “talking through” a contraction means because at 7 minutes I could and at 3 I couldn’t.

Luckily, Kevin had packed the car hours earlier JUST in case this was real labor so when it was time to go we could almost just run out the door – which we did. From the door to the car I had about 3 contractions and we were off. Kevin texted our families to let them know were en route. My eyes were completely closed from the minute we left the house until the minute Brandon was born…I held onto the car door for dear life and to help ease the pain. This was about 5pm.

We arrived at the hospital, I had a contraction as the valet came to get the car – we checked in and I was wheeled up to triage. I was quickly undressed and thrown into a gown where the doctor could check and see how dilated I was. 6cm! I thought, wow…this is really happening. I wanted a natural birth from the beginning and was prepared to work through the contractions with relaxation – which I had been doing all afternoon with the help of Kevin. When the nurse asked what my plans were for pain management I said I needed the epidural, pronto. Of course it was in between screams and moans because I was in some good pain. Within minutes, the contractions were coming one on top of the other and I had no time to regroup. I was squeezing Kevin’s hand, holding onto the mattress and moaning. The next contraction I had an urge to push that came out of nowhere. I told her “I’m pushing, I don’t know what I’m pushing but I’m pushing”. The nurse called for the doctor to come back and told him I was “pushy”…he checked me again and boom, my water broke…before I knew it they were taking me down the hall to labor and delivery. (clearly this is half my memory and half Kevin’s – my eyes are STILL closed).

Prior to this, the nurse was able to insert the IV for the epi which I would never get. We got to the room, I peeked out of one eye and I saw my doctor all suited up in scrubs with a face shield. A slight panic came over me as the bed was broken down and my legs were thrown up into stirrups. I hear, “on the next contraction you have to push”. I thought, wait…where’s my epidural? I can’t push yet. Boom. Contraction hits and my legs are pulled out and I’m pushing. They told me I need to hold my breath and push, hold onto my legs and bear down. With all the energy I had, all I could say was “hips”…this was the que for Kevin to remind the nurses of my hips. He said “she’s had hip surgery”, they asked what hip, he said “both!”. At that point, they pulled my legs back instead of out and NOW I was ready to push this nugget out. Two more sets of pushes and out came the head followed by the body. It was SO fast, I literally was in shock.

They placed the baby on my stomach and Kevin and I just loved on it and couldn’t believe what had just happened. After about 10 seconds or what seemed like an eternity, I said “well, what is it???”. I think everyone else was a little shocked too and forgot to announce the sex. Kevin said, Oh yeah! They checked and announced, “It’s a Boy!”.

Timeline of events:

1:11am – contractions start, 10 minutes apart and consistent.

8:00am-9:30am – contractions die down, we go for a walk.

10:00am – contractions are back 15-20 minutes apart.

11:00am – I head to the floor and prepare for an afternoon of relaxation! contractions are 15 minutes apart and more consistent.

2:00pm – contractions creep to about 7-10 minutes apart.

3:00pm – contractions 7 minutes apart consistently with tremors in between.

3:30pm-4:00pm – those tremors became real contractions at 3 minutes apart.

4:30pm – called the doctor and she told us to head to the hospital.

5:15pm-5:30pm – arrived at hospital, valet park, check in, taken to triage.

6:06pm – Brandon is born.

The contractions went from 15 minutes to 3 minutes in the blink of an eye. If we hit traffic, or had to pack or do anything else…this baby would have been born in the car, I am sure of it! Although the pain was something I could have never, ever imagined…I am so glad things happened how they did, no pain meds and very quick – almost too quick.

I was stitched up and within the next couple hours we were heading to our postpartum room. But first, we had a visit from Grandma and Grandpa – they had no idea Brandon was here when they came in the room!

On our way to our room.

40 Weeks – Due Date!

lllHow far along: 40 Weeks. I am due today!! Happy Pi Day.
Baby is the size of:  A Watermelon
Gender:
Haven’t been any closer to the reveal than we are right now!
Weight gain: Poundage has been up and down for the last 3 weeks. It was down again this week so I am back at the 24lb mark. I think some of the water I was retaining has removed itself.
Maternity clothes:
Leggings, yoga pants, cami’s and zipper sweatshirts. The weather has been getting a little nicer/warmer so I don’t need to bundle up as much.
Stretch marks:
Nope.
Belly button in or out:
  Flat.
Sleep: Sleep has been better lately, last night I slept like a log. Calm before the storm?
Best moment this week:
Nothing “great” stands out. Still 1cm. Baby’s head is fitting down nicely into my pelvis so that’s always a plus. Just need some contractions to start and we’ll be all set. I had contractions ALL day Monday and baby was moving like crazy. I thought for sure we were going to have a baby.
Worst moment this week: Uncomfortable. Annoying people at work asking me the same questions and saying “you’re still here”. Yep. I am.
Miss anything:
I’m beyond missing things right now. I just want to meet my baby!
Movement:
Decent bit of moving lately!! Come on baby!!
Cravings: Nothing really.
Queasy or sick:
Nope, doing pretty good.
Labor Signs:
More contractions and pelvic pressure.
Symptoms:
Ankles stopped swelling. Other than that, just dealing with some contractions.
Wedding rings on or off: On.
Looking forward to:
Having a baby! I hope this is the last post. Kevin and I finally settled on a short list of names so we aren’t staring at each other in the delivery room saying “I don’t know, what name do you like?”. I know everyone is looking forward to the big reveal. I am so many mixed emotions lately from the excitement, to being anxious and even getting frustrated that this baby may never want to come out! I don’t want to wait until the last possible minute. COME ON BABY!

39 Weeks

resizeHow far along: 39 Weeks.
Baby is the size of:  A Pumpkin
Gender:
So close now it’s scary. haha
Weight gain: The weight was back up again this week. So about the 28lb mark.
Maternity clothes:
I’m not caring much lately. Long tanks, sweaters/cardigans and leggings/yoga pants. I am getting uncomfortable for sure. Next pregnancy will be in the summer, I don’t care what you people say about being hot.
Stretch marks:
Nope.
Belly button in or out:
  Flat.
Sleep: Sleep has been pretty awful. I’m real uncomfortable.
Best moment this week:
Still 1cm, 80% effaced. I hope to be a little more this week for my upcoming appointment.
Worst moment this week: Just getting uncomfortable at this point. My belly gets sore sleeping on one side and when I move to the other it actually hurts a little. Everything is just making me blah and feeling yucky lately. Maybe it’s the low before some excitement????
Miss anything:
Being comfy and able to curl up! Maybe hug my husband and not have a belly in the way.
Movement:
Baby has been calmer and quieter than ever.
Cravings: Nothing really.
Queasy or sick:
Nope, doing pretty good.
Labor Signs:
More contractions.
Symptoms:
My ankles are still swelling a bit, not as bad as before. Contractions.
Wedding rings on or off: On.
Looking forward to:
EVERYTHING. If there was ever a time during the last ~280 days that I was ready it’s now more than EVER! At this point I’m not focused on a name, I’m not focused on a gender…I just want to see this baby and see what/who they look like, if they have hair…all the random things. My anxiety and excitement level have gone through the roof but I’m trying to be as calm as possible and hope things will start progressing quickly. I have another massage scheduled this weekend and hope that relaxes me and gets baby ready!

38 Weeks

IMG_4050

*Disclaimer – we are now in the days of not caring. No makeup and hair is going wild out of the shower. Don’t judge the leopard slippers either!

How far along: 38 Weeks. So close! <3
Baby is the size of:  A Spaghetti Squash
Gender:
  Soon. Soon.
Weight gain: I’m down 3 pounds from last week but I had a morning appt vs an afternoon one so I didn’t have a chance to eat as much. Back to the 25 pound mark. 🙂
Maternity clothes:
I’ll take anything at this point. Literally maternity tank tops. Getting far too large and a little annoyed that nothing fits.
Stretch marks:
Nope.
Belly button in or out:
  Flat. Very flat…but not out.
Sleep: Sleep has been pretty awful. Good until about 3am then awake every 30 minutes to roll over.
Best moment this week:
Finally being 1cm dilated!!! WOOHOO…things are moving in the right direction and baby knows it needs to vacate asap. I could tell the baby has dropped because I am peeing a lot more often and feel more pressure. Also, my strep was negative.
Worst moment this week: Ugh..just call me Mrs. Graceful. I had a doctor appointment Thursday morning and I decided that when I’m 9 months pregnant I want to fall down the stairs. My foot slipped and I went down hard on my butt/back and got some nice rug burn. Kev was in the shower and thought I was banging on the wall. As protocol, doc sent me to the hospital to be monitored for a few hours and everything came back fine. It was no fun but better to be safe than sorry!! We also got another snow storm this weekend while Kevin was out of town and Mom came to babysit me. It’s not fun cleaning snow off when you’re the size of a cow.
Miss anything:
Adult beverages.
Movement:
Still very calm. Nurses said the baby was perfect. 🙂
Cravings: Nothing really.
Queasy or sick:
Nope, doing pretty good.
Labor Signs:
More contractions, it was cool seeing them on the monitor today!
Symptoms:
Swollen ankles and pressure in my pelvis. All good signs of what’s to come.
Wedding rings on or off: On.
Looking forward to:
AH I am getting SOOOOO anxious to meet this little bugger. It’s getting to the “last time” and “next time” moments. The next time I see my Mom, we will be having or had the baby, and the next time I see my girlfriends we’ll have some show-and-tell! Everyday I leave work I think it could be my last. That’s exciting itself. I just want baby to make it’s entrance soon and on its own…SO excited to him him or her. <3
