Diaper Bag Essentials at 18 Months

dsc_0066I’m totally “that Mom” who leaves the house to run errands and doesn’t bring a diaper bag. It’s not sitting by the door, it’s never fully stocked – as in it’s usually missing a minimum of two essential items. oh well. I’ve been trying to combat this lack of being prepared in a couple of ways… 1. keeping diapers & wipes in the car at all times so I don’t need to bring a bag with me for short trips ( this was a recent #fail because the last time I needed the emergency stash, the wipes were dry and the diapers were the wrong size! ) and 2. using a larger purse and keeping a couple diapers and a small package of wipes for emergencies.

Here are the items I have in the diaper bag ( in our case backpack ) when it is fully stocked!

dsc_0067(Vera Bradley Diaper bag from the Outlet two years ago – similar here)

– probably the most obvious item. Over the summer I always had a couple “swimmers” diapers in addition to the regular diapers because you never know when there’s a pool or splash pad right around the corner.

Wipes – behind the diapers, this is second most obvious ( I hope ).

Snacks – in our family, this is probably more essential than the diapers and wipes because Brandon will absolutely lose his ess-aych-eye-tee if he doesn’t have something to eat every 85 seconds. The new Little Journey line from Aldi has impressed us with their snack selection. Brandon devoured the Little Munchers in about two days ( along with my help ) and the Yogurt Bites are full of flavor. They also carry Puffs and USDA Organic fruit and veggie Pouches.

Toys – this doesn’t mean grab every single toy in the house and throw it in the bag. We typically have a handful of toys that ALWAYS stay in the diaper bag which is nice because you don’t have to think about packing some or realizing you forgot his favorite ducky but even better than that is the toys always seem new to him! The toys that are around the house everyday are boring. When that little book with the puppet shark comes out once a month it’s a whole new ballgame.

Powder / Ointment – another necessity. Brandon loves carrying around small containers of powder and now that he knows how to open the cap, we keep the use at a minimum.

Miscellaneous – ziploc bag and spare clothes for accidents, snacks for Mom and Dad, sippy cup, changing pad if one isn’t already packed, pacifier, sunblock and hat for the summer months and an activity books and crayons.

Thank you Aldi and Influenster for sponsoring this blog post. I received my ALDI Little Journey products complimentary from Influenster and am entering the Brand Challenge for a chance to win a prize.

Friday ( Clothing ) Favorites

Transition clothes are so important for that “in-between” time between seasons when it’s not super hot but not super cold and vice versa. Here are some items I plan to add to my wardrobe this year as well as some staples I think every woman should have!

vestFloral / Hooded Down / Hybrid

Vests / is this even a surprise? I love vests, I own far too many of them and I always want more. Not all vests are created equal, they need pockets, a fold-down collar and preferably a zipper vs snaps or buttons. Hood is optional, it’s never a bad option.

bootsFlat / Low Heel / Black

Riding Boots / I feel like last year I barely wore my boots, maybe because I was always carrying a baby and/or carseat and that wasn’t the best option? Maybe I didn’t feel it was cold enough out? Not really sure, but I love my boots and I think it’s a good investment.

scarfInfinity / Crinkle / Plaid

Scarves / yes, that is scarves plural, you NEED more than one…maybe more like 12. A couple infinity scarves ( wool and cotton), light weight ( black and beige), and maybe a couple unique ones whether it be a fun design or one you can triple wrap. Black and tan/beige are the colors I choose in a scarf because it can be so versatile with any outfit.

Leggings / no brainer, but please wear a chunky sweater or long T to cover the bum because we ALL don’t need to know what color underwear you’re wearing. On my “must-buy” list are the Zella Live-In Leggings which come in the crop and full legging.

Chunky Sweater / finding the right sweater is sometimes difficult I feel. You want it oversized but not frumpy, fitted in certain spots but loose in others, long sleeves but not so much that you look like a child in mommy’s clothes.

jeansJeans / grab a skinny ( or SKIN tight )and a boot cut, all you’ll need for date night and pumpkin picking. I’m also really into black denim lately! You know I love Denim & Supply, and most of these jeans are on sale right now.

Shoes / I am DROOLING over these moccs from Lucky Brand….I need to come into some money, and come into it quick! Toms are my favorite shoe for any season, I wear them to work everyday! Lastly, I’m in need of some fall booties – the last ones didn’t work out so well so those got shipped back. These maybe?

Let me know your favorite fall styles or a new brand I need to check out. I’m always on the hunt for new ideas!

Jeans on Sale

I mentioned these jeans a few weeks ago but they are my favorite brand and favorite white jean right now AND they’re on super sale with additional discount (code: WKND)…grab it with the black top and you will have heads turning!

CaptureAnd these babies just arrived from the Nordstrum Anniversary sale. Grab them before the sale is over, they’re SO cute and comfortable

Jumpsuits and Rompers

I’ve been on the fence with rompers and jumpsuits for a long, long time. Mostly because being almost 5’9″ makes it a little difficult to wear a romper that fits properly and keeps my butt cheeks hidden from the world – not the mention it being short in the torso…if you catch my drift. I’ve stumbled on some super cute pieces (which I’m still nervous to try) but really, really wanting to! Personally, I want to go for the strapless jumpsuit as I feel that would be more flattering and comfortable on my body.

romperArmy Green / Strapless / Black / Racerback / Teal Romper / Blue Romper / Black /

I’m really digging the army green jumpsuit with the shorter/tighter legs. It’s so flattering and the skinnier legs make you look longer and leaner. The wide leg option is cute and more on the casual/comfy side. The best part of this outfit is that there’s no thinking involved! Does this shirt match this short or vice versa. It’s one-piece on and done. What’s even better than that is they are all well under $100! You don’t have to spend a lot to look great.

Do you have a jumpsuit or romper you love? Share which ones you’ve had your eye on.

Styles for Less

I am all about finding a good deal and that means from the grocery store to the clothes on my back. I shop the sales and I also shop the second-hand stores for gently worn, broken in clothing that is comfortable and affordable! I’ve gathered together a couple clothing sites I love to check out on the daily!

thredupFirst stop is thredUP, they are an online Consignment store for men, woman, children and accessories which lets you shop pages and pages of gently used to new items all at a fraction of the original price. You will see their price as well as what the retail price was of the item along with the size, material and their condition. Go one step further and send them items from your own closet and make money once it sells to use towards new items! Use the link above and code SUMMER for 40% off your entire purchase as a new customer.

I’ve mentioned Stitch Fix before as a way to have a personal stylist dress you in the most up to date clothing at a fairly reasonable cost. I do find the prices on the items to be a little out of my budget but once in a while you’ll find that staple item and won’t be bothered by the price tag. You fill out a fashion profile with likes, dislikes, sizing and any other style information you can give them. Aside from that, you can make style Pinterest boards to add to your profile and your stylist will use that as a guide. Give them tips or a specific item you’ve been looking for and let them work their magic. Pay the $25 styling fee and that will be credited towards any item you choose to keep!

renttherunwayWith four weddings coming up this year (plus the showers and bachelorette parties) I need outfits for each one that won’t break the bank. I’m not one to invest in expensive, fancy dresses and typically wear the same one for years before I get sick of seeing myself in the same outfit in every picture! I haven’t tried Rent the Runway yet but I do plan to make my first purchase soon! You can order an item (choose two sizes just in case), wear it to your event and send it back within 4 or 8 days! The prices are amazing and the reviews really help you determine if it’s the right item for you. I’m really looking forward to trying a romper – and the best part is if I don’t like it, it doesn’t matter!! Use the link above and code FIRSTRTR20P for 20% off and $30 off your first order. I am not sure if both discounts can be used together.

Current Favorites

I’m not one to typically fall in love with clothing or specific products, I try things out, get things on sale and go about my day. However, lately I have been really (REALLY) stuck to a handful of items that I can honestly rave about. I own each and every item mentioned below so I am speaking from real life experience. The only item I do not own is the off-shoulder top, but I tried it on and absolutely loved it. It’s out of my comfort zone (and price point) but is totally adorable with a pair of skinny or boot cut jeans.

White Skinny / Denim / Foundation / Mascara / Cart / Top / Workout Belt / Curling Iron / Heat Protector / French Press / Crude Oil / Pull Cloth

Beauty – I jumped on the L’OREAL Infallible Foundation bandwagon a little late, luckily my CVS was fully stocked so I was able to grab it. I guessed on the color and it was a good match. I like this stuff – it stays on all day and has fairly medium coverage. I recommend applying with your fingers, I found that gave the best coverage (vs beauty blender or brush). The Almay Mascara has also been a recent fave. I had a coupon to try one free so WHY not? I find Drugstore mascara to be better than the high end stuff and this has really impressed me. It does not clump and looks great with only one application. Price point on both of these items is unbeatable.

I just recently used the Hot Tools 1″ Curling Iron with the L’OREAL Boost It (my sister-in-law has the best hair products!). I have a bigger curling iron and my hair doesn’t seem to hold the curl worth anything – when I used the Heatspray with a smaller barrel the curls stayed in for DAYS. I couldn’t believe it. I am not one to use heat sprays because they make my hair feel so gross and greasy. But totally recommend these!

Lastly, Crude Oil. I had always heard that using oil on oily skin is a good thing but I was never into it. This Everything Oil has been so great to my skin even in the hot summer months. I wash my face with my regular wash and the Microfiber Cloths and put the oil on after. It’s gentle and great for sensitive skin. There is no odor and my skin is so smooth in the morning. They are running a flash sale right now using code “30FOR30“, 30% off your entire purchase. I grabbed the 4oz Oil and more clothes – I highly recommend the Starter Kit if you’re new to Crude.

Fashion – Mom Jeans. I have grown to hate that description. Just because I’m a Mom now, why do I have to fall into a new category and shop in a new section? I still like my low rise, skinny, hole in the knee jeans. BUT. Twice within the last month I have fallen in LOVE with Denim & Supply by Ralph Lauren. I had been loving the look of white skinny jeans in the “fashion world” and debated with myself if they were really for me. I was in Macy’s and just on a whim tried on a pair and I couldn’t not have loved them more. The material, the fit, the price were meant for me. Most recently, I tried on another pair of darker denim in a more boot cut style and again, fell in love. They are higher waisted without being TOO high and having that “long crotch” look that I HATE. I think the best part is their sizing is similar to men’s, (31×32, 29×30, etc) so you can truly find your perfect size. Best part is they’re currently on sale!! Hurry. GO!

As mentioned before the off-shoulder top is one that I do not actually have. It is too expensive and I don’t think I would really get much use out of it since I don’t dress up for work and it’s not really something I would wear frequently. But mama’s, this shirt is gorgeous matched with the jeans above. It can be worn off shoulder or on, has flowly sleeves and hides the pooch or growing bump!

Other – Couple more things I want to share are my Workout Belt and French Press. My iPod has reached maximum charges (did you know that was even a thing?) so it does not work unless it’s plugged into a power source. I was looking for an armband but running with an iPhone on my arm was not my idea of a fun workout. I settled on a belt and I am SO happy with the decision. It’s adjustable, comfortable and easy to use your phone at the same time. Last but not least, we all know that Iced Coffee is my obsession but spending $3 a day on it really adds up. I have tried to make my own so many ways and I really think I have found it. We buy our own beans and grind them ourselves (Keurig pods are too expensive). I make my coffee at night but adding a large scoop of coffee to my French Press with 8-10oz hot water brewed from the Keurig. I mix and let it steep for 5-8 minutes, pour and set it in the fridge overnight. I pour it into my cup in the morning (the coffee settles in the bottle so you aren’t chewing on grounds) and add whatver sweetener or milk. My recent favorite prepared iced coffee is by Stok, find it in any grocery store.

What products have been your “go-to’s” lately? I would love to know. Have you tried anything I mentioned and do you love them??
